TEAM PHILOSOPHY MESSAGE - By: Head Coach Steve Helm

Mount Si High School Wildcats
Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Steve Helm

Philosophy

The Mount Si Wildcats philosophy is to provide the student/Athlete an opportunity to gain a valuable education through the sport of basketball that will be carried on throughout the life of our student athletes. The education provided will include commitment and loyalty, dedication and desire, work ethic, responsibility, and pride to the program and the individual that will grow a passion from within for success in life. These positive life traits will be taught through the competition of basketball at Mount Si High School.

The most effective people are the self-motivated. It is my aim to build a desire for self-motivation in the athlete by starting with the athlete’s goals and working with him towards team objectives. My philosophy lies in building self-confidence in our players to be the very best leader and contributor they can be for the betterment of the team. We will concentrate on the capabilities we possess and judge success or failure on our effort and execution. We will play an exciting brand of basketball emphasizing fundamentals through our pressure team defense and our aggressive yet disciplined offense. We will strive to inspire excitement in our fans with hustle and intelligence while building a tradition of competitive basketball excellence through all levels at the high school and select/feeder programs.

The Snoqualmie Valley community takes a great deal of pride in the success of their athletic teams. Parents spend thousands of dollars for their kids to play sports these days and we want to make sure none of that is ever taken for granted. School Spirit, student body unity and the values inherent from athletic competition are easier to develop in a competitive atmosphere. For these reasons our Snoqualmie Valley community believes that it is very important that all our varsity athletic teams are competitive with the teams from other schools in the KingCo Conference. Our Wildcat Basketball program and teams will be one that others look up to and model after.

Elements of Mount Si Wildcats Basketball

RESPECT

Respect people for what they are and what they stand for, even if you don’t agree. Respect those who are in authority over you- parents, teachers, coaches, elders, ect...

HONESTY

Honesty is a distinguishing mark on a person’s character. To be a person of your word is a worthy goal. It is a choice we make many times everyday. Never compromise on what you know is right. Choosing to do what is right will always keep your integrity at the forefront.

LOYALTY

The ability to be constantly faithful to another person or cause, motivated out of love and respect, is loyalty. To be loyal means to be there when the road is rocky or the sea is turbulent. Fair weather friends are common and a dime a dozen. We need people who are loyal.

CLASS

This means a person of integrity, always taking responsibility for his own actions. It is showing consideration for others and having good manners. It is having humility, poise and control. Class must come from within you; it’s a conscious effort and a way of life.

DEDICATION

This means a setting apart for a sole purpose; a giving up wholly or earnestly. A dedicated person is willing to sacrifice self to the completion of a task, not only for oneself but for the greater of others. A team that is not dedicated can not truly call itself a team; they are on a mission for disaster. The three D’s; Dedication, Determination and Discipline equal winner, and it’s great to be on a winner!!
